Dusty Bit Radio: Episode 2

DBR002-Borderlands-PreSequel

Anyone who knows me is aware that I love the Borderlands franchise and have been a supporter of Gearbox Software since their work on Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC.  The Borderlands franchise is the RPG cross FPS game that features hilarious antics, humorous side-quests, epic boss battles and more guns than anyone could possibly imagine.  I’ve played Borderlands for countless hours with friends running through the main campaign and all the wonderful DLC.

This past week, I had the privilege to attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo, otherwise known as E3, in Los Angeles.  It was a wonderful experience that I will detail in a separate blog post soon.

While I was at E3, I had the opportunity to talk with Matthew Armstrong, Franchise Director for Borderlands, and Tony Lawrence, Studio Head of 2K Australia about Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel coming out October this year.  We discuss some of the decisions made for the game based on what the developers wanted to pursue based on fan feedback, many of the challenges that came up during development of the game, and take a brief glimpse of the history of the franchise.   The Pre-Sequel takes place between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, hence the name.  You play on Pandora’s Moon working on Handsome Jack’s side as you discover his rise to fame and power with the help of Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha, and our beloved Claptrap.  You will be immersed in chilling, low-gravity, O2-powered, laser-filled gameplay that is sure to bring home that familiar Borderlands 2 feel right to your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC.

Dusty Bit Radio: Episode 1

DBR001-DestinyThis past Monday, Bungie released an infosplosion of news regarding their upcoming game, Destiny.  Major media outlets have written articles about Destiny’s gameplay from hands on experience with the game after going to Bungie studios a few weeks ago.  A lot of people are excited for this game coming out on September 9th of this year, including myself, but for certain reasons.

There are those who are on the “hype” train for Destiny eagerly awaiting for the full story to be told for this new universe.  Destiny has made the most anticipated game of the year for a few web sites including Digital Trends, Metacritic, etc. and even making IGN’s most anticipated shooter voted on by its readers.  I, however, am not on this hype train for a number of reasons, but mainly because of the lack of information that we have about the actual story behind Destiny.

Bungie have always been good story tellers and experts at making fun and immersive games from a single and multiplayer experience.  While I understand the desire to keep most of the story under wraps as they let gamers realize for themselves what’s going on, there’s a lack of longing to find out the mysteries behind Destiny for me.  I, myself, am not alone in my “un-hypeness” for Destiny, which instigated me starting a new show.

For my inaugural episode of the Dusty Bit Radio, I have the pleasure of having one of my good gaming friends, Mandy Paez aka. Lady Luck from Gamertag Radio to talk about our feelings on Destiny as it stands today.
